Holidaymakers heading overseas in the coming weeks have been advised to get in touch with their mobile network before they travel in order to ensure they get the best deal.
According to independent price comparison and switching service uSwitch, EU regulation Eurotariff rates come into force in three weeks which cap the levy that mobile networks are allowed to charge those using their phone abroad.
Furthermore, uSwitch reveals customers could make savings of up to 69 per cent compared to previous charges when they make calls from abroad after this period and receiving calls while overseas will also cost 67 per cent less.
"These new rates will not come into effect until the end of the month, so we advise anyone going on holiday over the next three weeks to call their mobile network before they go to make sure that they get the best deal while they are away," commented Steve Weller, head of communications services at uSwitch.
However, uSwitch adds that people should still exercise caution when using their mobile phone abroad as the new rules do not cover data services such as SMS and MMS, with users also advised to check their tariff in non-EU member states as there are some exceptions.
A recent report by uSwitch showed that the average Brit spends six days a year networking online.
