Consumers on a budget have been advised that it is "very easy" to shop around for a cheap holiday deal on the internet, however those who cannot realistically afford a holiday have been encouraged to show restraint. According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), depending on the amount of debt people are in they should either abstain from travelling or work out a way of vacationing on the cheap - such as through house swapping or camping. The CCCS notes that in order to be economical, people should avoid the more expensive holiday periods in addition to enforcing a day-by-day budget for the holiday. "If you really can't afford to go on holiday you have to accept that and not go on holiday - or look around for ways of making it a very cheap holiday," commented Frances Walker, spokesperson for the CCCS. Ms Walker noted that for those who do not have to take their holidays in July or August, it is better to book during another month as costs are higher during school holidays. A recent study by Halifax revealed that 9.5 days is the perfect length for a holiday, with holidaymakers pining for home after 9.4 days on average.
