A spokesperson for international travel agency STA Travel has urged people to consider travel insurance cover when they set off on their trip.
Describing having a valid travel insurance policy as "imperative", the spokesperson said that it could be the "most important purchase" someone makes for their trip.
"Insurance is not just for emergencies, but also to help you enjoy your trip secure in the knowledge that you are covered against the unexpected," she explained.
Earlier this month, Perry Wilson, a spokesperson for InsureandGo, said that people need to change their perception of travel insurance as solely being cover for when flights are cancelled.
"That is a part of it, but the biggest part of it is medical: accidental damage to yourself and also personal liability if you cause damage to somebody else," he commented.
Because of its importance, Mr Wilson said that travel insurance ought to be made compulsory when people choose to leave the UK.
People travelling to Europe can take a European health insurance card, which may entitle them to reduced - or even free of charge - medical treatment.
