Skiers looking to take a holiday this winter may want to take advantage of the latest deal from Tesco, which is offering free winter sports cover when an annual travel insurance policy is taken out.

The offer, which is available until February 6th, costs £41.50 for an adult on an annual European travel insurance policy.

According to Allan Burns, head of travel insurance at Tesco, the policy could be suitable for skiers waiting until the last minute to book a holiday deal.

"At this time of year everyone is thinking about their upcoming ski holidays and by using our offer, people can save money on what is one of the most expensive sports around," he claimed.

Travel insurance policies are available for single or year-round use and can be tailored to include trips within Europe or worldwide.

A family policy can cover up to four children, although cover is also available for single travellers and couples.

For travellers looking to participate in winter sports further abroad, Neilson Ski has reported that as a result of recent snowfalls in a number of regional resorts, Banff, Kicking Horse and Fernie in Canada are all attractive destinations for skiers in 2008.
