Skiers looking forward to a holiday in the mountains should ensure their travel insurance policy provides adequate cover for winter sports, Defaqto has claimed.
According to the financial data collection and research company, skiers who plan to take a mountain break more than once a year may be interested in saving money with an annual insurance policy.
For those just planning one trip, the firm recommends purchasing a standard winter sports policy, as adding sports cover to an existing travel insurance policy can be more expensive.
It also suggested that travellers shop around for travel insurance, adding that some policies also provide cover for insufficient snowfall or delays caused by an avalanche.
"In this time of disturbed weather patterns, it's worth checking you have realistic cover for piste closure and travel to an alternative location," said Mike Powell, principal consultant of general insurance at Defaqto.
He also emphasised that ski equipment cover, personal liability and medical expenses are also important factors to consider.
According to the International Tourism Trade Fairs Association, there are more people taking a regular winter ski holiday in the UK than ever before, with resorts in Hungary, Slovenia and Bulgaria gaining in popularity.
