People planning multiple holidays in the coming year may wish to look into an annual travel insurance policy, Sainsbury's Bank has suggested.

With around 12 million people planning to book a holiday before the end of February 2008, travel insurance should be considered a necessity, according to Steve Johnson of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance.

"While it's easy to get excited about shopping around for destinations, resorts and even flights, travel insurance should not be ignored or accepted as merely an add-on," he said.

Mr Johnson added that people should not feel rushed into purchasing travel insurance, but rather should take time to investigate the best deal for them.

He also suggested that annual cover may also be a good option for regular travelers, including those planning to participate in adventurous activities.

Earlier this week, Fair Investment Company director James Caldwell suggested that skiers can be particularly vulnerable to travel mishaps, with expensive equipment, unpredictable weather and potential for injury.

He suggested that people planning a ski holiday this winter contact a travel insurance company to find a policy that meets their specific needs before heading to the slopes, then shop around for the lowest prices with the maximum amount of cover.
