Expatriate healthcare insurance is more effective than country-specific cover, Norwich Union has claimed.
According to the life insurance firm, choosing expatriate cover can offer protection in several countries, not just in the destination where the policy is purchased.
This can come in handy for those Britons with a holiday or retirement home, who may need medical treatment in both their country of residence and the UK, the company suggests.
Martin Banks, head of international at Norwich Union, explained that expatriate deals typically offer the same level of protection in several countries in geographical regions.
"So, for instance, Spain would fall typically within the European region of cover so you would be able to go elsewhere in Europe rather than being limited to just your country of residence," he said.
Meanwhile, Direct Line recently called on holidaymaker to be "open" and "honest" about any pre-existing medical conditions when applying for travel insurance.
