Britons 'manage investments online' - 24/07/2007

A growing number of Britons are using the internet to manage their shares and investments, new research from Alliance Trust suggests.
The financial services provider has revealed that the advent of the internet has made is easier for investors to manage their portfolios at any time of day or night.
Some 39 per cent of online share traders say the use the web to check their investments at the most convenient time, while 30 per cent only trade in daytime and 27 per cent are 'moonlight traders', managing their portfolios in the evenings.
"Most of the UK population now has internet access, with many having wireless connections and this online revolution has definitely converted huge numbers of everyday investors," said Claudia Phillips, managing director of investment dealing at Alliance Trust.
"There are many advantages to managing your stocks and shares online and, as our research shows, it is important for today's share dealers to be able to trade wherever and whenever they want," she added.
The research also revealed that 33 per cent of Britons listen to music while trading shares and 29 per cent relax with a drink and 14 per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds manage their investments from their beds.
Alliance Trust recently revealed that real earnings growth has reached a ten-year low, despite the fact that spending levels have increased.
