Art is an "excellent asset" for investment - 27/07/2007

Art is becoming a popular investment option which offers strong long-term growth and increased annual returns, one expert suggests.
Justin Williams, cofounder of the Art Trading Fund, states that art can offer stability to those investors looking to diversify their portfolios.
"If you're looking as an investor at diversifying your risk, then art's an excellent asset class," he commented, explaining that when other products fallback, art usually continues to climb in value.
"When you model art's performance versus traditional investments, when those things are going down, art goes up," Mr Williams elaborated, citing that this is art's "very big strong point".
Investors who choose to purchase works of art can benefit from returns of up to 30 per cent on an annual basis, with the asset providing long-term benefits as well, added the expert.
The Art Trading Fund is the first art-based hedge fund focused on delivering three to 12 month returns to investors.
Meanwhile, F&C Asset Management recently claimed that ethical investments can provide favourable returns for conusmsers, with spokesperson Jason Hollands suggesting that customers can "have their cake and eat it".
