The chance to win £1,500 is being offered by Halifax in a new home insurance competition.

Consumers who purchase home insurance on the internet with Halifax between December 1st and January 4th will automatically be entered into a free draw - the grand prize of which is £1,500, it has emerged.

The company is also offering customers a discount of up to 35 per cent on home buildings and contents cover, with direct debit monthly payments available at no extra cost.

While Halifax claims that unlimited cover is available for buildings and contents, it also explains that this offer is subject to "certain inner limits" including single item and high-risk items, as well as money and contents in the open.

Limits of £1,500 per item are applied to items classified as high risk, within a total limit of £15,000.

Extended home insurance cover is "particularly beneficial at Christmas, when expensive presents in the home mean the value of its contents can increase significantly", states Halifax.

The company explains that policies can be purchased up to 30 days in advance of the first day of cover, with winners of the draw to be announced on January 7th 2008.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for Liverpool Victoria, recently highlighted that the crime rate in a home's location may impact on home insurance premiums.
