Independent website Moneyfacts is offering a number of hints and tips to help consumers deal with rising energy prices.
Some of the measures people can take are to pay their bills via direct debit, use online tariffs and get both gas and electricity from the same energy supplier.
Moneyfacts also urges people to shop around for the best deal.
"There are a vast number of options available. A recent survey by Moneyfacts.co.uk shows that there are currently over 230 gas tariffs and 160 electricity tariffs on the market," the website states.
However, the independent personal finance information provider adds that some consumers will be able to save money by altering their tariff with their existing provider.
Moneyfacts states that "most providers" do not provide their consumer with this information and people may have to contact their utility company directly to get hold of this information.
The website also states tariff data is needed to do a full market comparison.
In related news, consumer group Which? has recently urged consumers to check their tariff options.
Mike Stevenson, of Switch with Which?, said last month: "Make sure you get the best deal by gathering together your bills now and looking at the . options available."
