Prospective honeymooners could find a proliferation of attractive deals in January, according to one expert.

Francesca Moore, spokesperson for hitched.co.uk, points out that the first month of the year is a particularly lucrative time for those seeking good deals on romantic trips.

"Any time is popular to book your honeymoon, but January is particularly busy because of special offers, deals and packages that become available in the New Year," states Ms Moore.

The popularity of Valentine's engagements means that there is usually a great deal of choice available at this time of year, she adds.

In the 2007 World Travel Awards, St Lucia was named the World's Leading Honeymoon Destination.

The hitched.co.uk spokesperson notes that eager honeymoon planners should remember that there is usually nothing available to book over a year ahead of travel, so 11 months in advance is often the best option in terms of booking times.

However, booking different components of the holiday at different times to maximise the deals available may also be a savvy option, she suggests.
