Couples moving to a new home should spread the workload, which can often be substantial, according to one financial services provider.
Halifax's latest survey indicates that while 65 per cent of UK couples make a joint decision to move house, some people are happy to go it alone, with 19 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women claiming to act alone when making such a big decision.
Gordon Edwards, managing director at Halifax Estate Agents, recommends collaborating with loved ones when relocating, pointing out that such a large decision can often benefit from two minds instead of one.
"Buying a house is the biggest purchase most of us are likely to make. If you are deciding to sell your home, purchase a new property or sorting the finances for a move, it's important to involve your partner in the decision-making process," states Mr Edwards.
Working with partners when moving home is an increasingly prominent convention, according to the study, which reveals that 72 per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds make a joint decision to move house compared to a corresponding figure of 58 per cent among the over-65s.
Meanwhile, Savills has recommended Manchester as a viable investment location for first-time buyers.
