Some householders will welcome tariff changes from BT and others will bemoan them, according to one price comparison website.
The firm's new cost structure sees the standard cost of line rental rise from £11 to £11.75 for customers who receive paper bills, although those who opt for paperless billing will pay £10.50 for their basic connection.
Customers of Option 1 and Option 2 will be hit by higher daytime call costs of 23 per cent, with evening calls no longer to be capped at 4.5p an hour and instead to be charged at 1.5p a minute.
While people taking out these options under a 12 month contract will get free evening calls and free weekend calls, others will only receive free calls on weekends.
In addition, the cost of daytime calls is to rise from 3.25p to 4p per minute and evening calls rising from 1.5p per minute to 4.5p per hour.
However, customers on Options 2 and 3 are to receive price drops of 22 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.
Steve Weller, head of communications services, at uSwitch.com, asserts: "Today's announcement signals BT's ongoing intention to drive customers onto its inclusive calling plans and also to opt for paperless billing."
In energy bill news, Scottish Power has this week become the latest provider to announce price hikes.
