Older Britons looking to improve their health over the next few years may be interested in the benefits on offer through the newly-launched Premier 50 current account from Alliance & Leicester.

These features include up access to a 24-hour, seven days a week Health at Hand Helpline, two private out-patient specialist consultations a year and £750 for out-patient diagnostic testing every year up to the age of 79.

Consumers must pay a £10 monthly fee to take out this current account, which offers a seven per cent credit interest rate on balances up to £2,500 fixed for a year and a zero per cent overdraft for life.

Emma Walkley, senior current account manager for the account, said: "Our bespoke current account aimed at the over-50s offers real benefits, giving our customers peace of mind that some of their more essential health needs will be taken care of."

She added that a survey from the firm revealed that health is a serious concern for the over-50s, while healthcare can be expensive, especially for a high quality of care.

Last week, moneysupermarket.com welcomed the new easy access account from Bradford & Bingley, praising it for its lack of withdrawal penalties and short-term bonuses.
