More than a third of Britons feel concerned if they do not save as much money as they intended, it has been revealed. According to a new study by NS&I, 47 per cent of UK consumers feel worried if they waste money or overspend. Meanwhile 20 per cent of Brits claim to be addicted to saving money, with more than two-fifths of UK consumers claiming to feel worried if they withdraw funds from their savings accounts for something other than the purpose they had been saving for. "This result challenges the bleak view of Britain as a nation obsessed with spending and debt, and demonstrates there is a distinct group of British savers who are not only in the black but committed to saving every little penny," commented Dax Harkins, senior savings strategist at NS& I. He added that savers should make the effort to review the "small steps" they can take to cut back on spending in order to save in the long term. Earlier this year NS&I launched a campaign to help reunite savings account holders with £435 million sat dormant in unused or forgotten savings accounts.
