Shoppers looking to return Christmas gifts should be clued up on their rights, according to one bank.
Halifax has said that December and January are popular times for shoppers to return goods to shops, with 29 per cent more refunds onto credit cards traditionally seen in December than in any other month.
"December and January are the most popular months for retail returns, so it's important to know your rights as a consumer," said Ken Stannard, head of credit cards at Halifax.
"The busy high street can be a stressful place at this time of year, but with the right knowledge of your shopping rights, you can feel relaxed when returning gifts or sale purchases."
According to the bank, the average refund to a credit card in December is £55, while in January this figure climbs to 60 per cent, although there are only 12 per cent more refunds to cards in this time compared with the norm.
Halifax claims that the most popular days for returning goods after Christmas are December 28th and 29th.
Earlier this week it was reported that Brits were expected to spend £380 million on credit cards on Christmas Eve alone, according to Sainsbury's Bank.
