Car insurance customers will be getting an improved service thanks to a new partnership between websites eBay and insurancewide.com, they have said.

The eBay auction site and insurancewide.com, which claims to be the first-ever price comparison site, will partner to offer customers a one-stop shop for buying and insuring their vehicles.

Insurancewide says it offers motorists access to 98 per cent of the insurance market, while eBay's motor site sells a car every two minutes.

Jody Ford, head of the car auction site, said: "With over three million visitors every month, the needs of the eBay Motors community are wide and varied.

"We believe insurancewide.com provides the right level of choice, service and value to address these needs."

Customers to eBay will be able to click on a link to the new insurance area via a link under the motoring section.

Insurancewide.com chief executive James Harrison said: "This is a very exciting partnership."

He went on to say that customers would find the process more convenient, even those who had bought a vintage or classic model or had unusual circumstances.

Over-50s insurance specialist Saga recently launched ConfidentCover.com, a price comparison site, in response to research that revealed 69 per cent of over-50s visited online car insurance comparison sites.
