Britannia Rescue advises that car insurance policy holders should consider breakdown cover.
The institution notes that drivers are 63 per cent more likely to break down on January 2nd than any other day, with the likelihood of poor weather combined with a period of idle vehicles raising the chances of motoring mishaps.
As such, it may be useful to integrate breakdown cover into car insurance provision to avoid financial loss in the event of a car collapse.
"If the worst does happen, having car breakdown cover will alleviate some of the stress. Since many incidents arise from cars failing to start, drivers should consider taking out the housecall option with their breakdown cover," says spokesperson Andrew Beard.
Among Britannia Rescue's top tips for dealing with a breakdown include trying if possible to move the vehicle out of the way of traffic, switching on hazard lights to indicate what as happened and give the breakdown recover service as many details as possible.
It is also recommended that any drivers who break down in a remote area should inform their breakdown recovery service of their concerns - the institution points out that it prioritises vulnerable people on their own or with children.
Admiral car insurance provider claims that members of households with more than one car are less likely to be involved in a crash.
