Good deals are available on car insurance, one representative of the industry has commented.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI), asserts that shopping around is important for car insurance customers.
Although the market is currently quite restrictive - particularly for younger drivers - it is worth looking at as many deals as possible to find the cheapest product, Mr Tarling states.
Younger drivers may find that a large number of car insurance providers do not offer them cover because "they are more likely to be involved in an accident", the ABI member explains.
And young people who are on their parents' insurance as the main driver should be aware that they are committing fraud, he adds.
"Shop around, even in a market like this. There are more competitive companies than others. Look into pass plus; some companies now offer incentives for young drivers who have this," the ABI member recommends.
Road safety charity Brake reports that younger drivers have a higher probability of experiencing an accident, with 151 motorists between the ages of 16 and 19 being killed on Britain's roads in 2004.
