An £18 saving could be made on car insurance by couples who survey the market, according to one price comparison website.
Drivers looking to add an extra person onto their car insurance policy could make a saving of £18 by carefully considering which company they take out a deal with, recommends moneysupermarket.com.
This is one of a series of insurance saving recommendations offered by the website in the field of car insurance.
Anyone looking to add an older driver to their policy could make the most substantial saving by shopping around, the site observes, with the difference between the most and least expensive policies standing at £258.
Meanwhile, motorists looking to increase their voluntary excess from £100 to £500 could save an average of £69, while halving mileage by car-pooling could result in a £9 car insurance saving, the site reports.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, asserts: "While insurance is essential for financial security and peace of mind, it is important you only opt for a level of cover relevant to your needs and at the best available price."
The website previously reported that London and the north-west of England are the most expensive places in the UK for car insurance.
